Ag Finance start-up is seeking $5 million in Capital

Start-up finance company CommStream Capital is seeking to raise $5 million from new investors.

Melbourne-based boutique Nash Advisory has been hired to help privately-owned CommStream cut a deal and introduce it to potential investors.

CommStream was set up in 2015 to fund capital-starved farmers in return for a cut of the farm's annual output such as wool or wheat over a long-term contract. It is after a $5 million injection so it can grow its portfolio of commodity streams in the agricultural sector.

The business was founded by Charlie Blomfield, Simon Skerrett and Robert Heydon. Its board includes former Credit Suisse country head David Trude; Mike Chaseling, co-founder of Emerald Grain; and co-founder of Wheaton Precious Metals, Peter Barnes.

"This equity raising will allow us to ramp up our investments alongside Aussie farmers. We have proven the streaming model works in Australia and farmers are showing strong demand," Blomfield said

"The farmers interested in CommStream are quality operators and we are growing organically. The new funding will allow us to speed up the execution of the strong deal pipeline we have developed."
