Are we just Pawns in the process? - I had a chat yesterday with a Farmer mate who said as Farmers, we have to cop what the government is doing regarding renewable energy because it's our duty to do it for the betterment of the nation. I didn't agree with him, but I listened intently to what he had to say. Most Farmers just want to Farm unimpeded. This is very interesting commentary from Phil Guthrie at the bottom of the page, take a read then come back. Then, after that, take a read of what one of our Farmers Club subscribers said below:

"Hi Dwain. Phil Guthrie's comments ring so true and sum up most of the issues we face right now in country areas as the Gov and corporations make decisions that directly affect our lives, with next to no care or consideration for what actually might happen to us. And zero consultation. And our past history of finding a way and problem solving just won't cut it anymore.

The renewable energy issue is just a great example. Take us for granted, use our local areas and resources, treat us with no respect, and pump the benefits straight into the populated areas, and worse than that, split our communities in two by making winners and losers. So what could be a massive boost for our communities turns into the complete opposite".

I'd say my mate would be in the absolute minority here amongst the Farming community. How it affects people is spelt out above, but an even better example is what Tess Healy, a young Farmer from Rupanyup (Vic), said on the Hey Farmer Farmer podcast this week. She outlined the negative impact the proposed wind towers had on her family. She also made a good point by saying that people will up and leave because of what's happening and who is going to replace them. Who is going to want to live in these Rural areas amongst this infrastructure? This particular podcast is well worth a listen to understand how it affects families at the coal face.
