Back to the past - Case IH Axial-Flow system turns 40

The idea debuted at last year's AgQuip Field Days in Gunnedah NSW, was launched on the global stage earlier this year, and in 2019 local farmers will have their chance to own a piece of Case IH heritage-inspired machinery.

To be launched at the Wimmera Machinery Field Days early next month (MARCH), the limited-edition Case IH Axial-Flow 150 Series combine is a celebration of the company's International Harvester heritage. The combine features a heritage-inspired paint scheme with the traditional IH white roof and rims as well as side-panel decals reminiscent of the first Axial-Flow, introduced into the market over 40 years ago.

The special-edition Axial-Flow was announced in North America in July, receiving a great deal of interest among long-time followers of the combine, and its arrival in Australia is a proud moment for the Australia/New Zealand Case IH team.

"We had an idea to pay tribute to our proud history and present an Axial-Flow in the 40th anniversary colours at AgQuip 2017, and it got a great response from visitors to the Case IH site," said Tim Slater, Product Manager for Hay and Harvest, Case IH ANZ.

"The uptake on social media and the feedback it created was amazing. This extended especially to North America where the social media interest really took off once the photos of it at AgQuip started to circulate. Visitors to Farm Progress in the US (which was the week after AgQuip in 2017) also wanted to know where it was.

"So, due to such strong interest it was thrown out there as a global idea and now it's being rolled out on combines in the US and here. It's really gratifying to know that an idea we had down here in Australia has had such an impact. It also shows that while Australia and New Zealand may be smaller markets on the global scale, we have a strong influence when it comes to product development and releases."

While honouring the company's history, the 150 Series also reflects its future direction and emphasis on technological advancement and productivity gains.

Some of the key features include:

* Cross-Flow cleaning system - the largest cleaning system for a Class V to VII combine in the industry, featuring side hill compensation and industry leading clean out.

* A two-speed electric shift transmission that for simplicity is designed to use 1st gear for harvesting and 2nd gear for roading. It also provides increased propulsion and improved tractive effort for difficult field conditions, improving performance when needed.

* Residue management systems featuring an integral straw chopper, as well as hydraulically driven dual disc spreaders for improved machine access and performance.

As well as its distinct visual impression, Tim said the combine represented an increase in capacity, horsepower and grain savings.

"Many farmers will find it suits their needs perfectly because of its productivity enhancements, price and flexibility," he said.
