Boarding vs Local Schools - It's an interesting subject, and many have differing opinions. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, and I will try and spell some of them out below.

I think kids who go to Boarding School end up with better lifelong networks. They meet so many more people from different locations and people with more diversity. They seem to have a wider reach as far as business networks are concerned. They may also have greater opportunities in Sports, and I'd argue that the education is slightly better, or it might be that the education opportunities are greater.

Some advantages of going local are that you get to live at home and can commit to your local sporting teams. It seems that the kids that go local are much more entrenched in the local community. I'd say that kids with ambition can come from anywhere. For me, I went to the local Tech School and wasn't really interested too much because I pretty much wanted to be a Farmer. I got by, and many others did too.

But going local is certainly a lot cheaper for parents, and many families that do the Boarding thing have more than one kid go through the system, so it can add up. Many would argue that it's a great investment in your kid's future, and it's hard to argue with that. Which way did you go, and what were the advantages of doing so?
