Broken Hill Broken

I scour the mainstream media each day looking For Agricultural stories for this publication, and I have seen bugger all about Broken Hill, Tibooburra, Wilcannia, Menindee, White Cliffs and other surrounding communities being out of power. Apparently, there are something like 12,000 residents affected.

They are trying generators, but they keep tripping out. Locals are being self-sufficient and using smaller type generators to get by. The mines have been cut off, and 500-plus workers have been forced onto unpaid annual leave.

Small local businesses have lost anything up to around $30,000 worth of stock or lost business. It's a disaster, and although it can't be attributed to the renewable energy push, it can be a little taste of what's to come if we keep trying to push things too far that way.

It's like the footy umpire that does a good job; you don't notice them; it's when they botch it up it becomes noticeable. The same is happening with our energy system; it just worked 20 years ago, and we didn't notice it. Now, the cracks in the system are showing.
