CBH Harvest report - Total WA receivals reach $15.6m tonnes as Harvest nearly finished

OPERATIONS UPDATE
Grain receivals have slowed down across the state over the past week, with many growers reaching the end of their harvest programs and others pausing operations over the Christmas period.

Despite this, the Kwinana Zone has received enough grain over the past seven days to push past its grain receival record, with more than 7.7 million tonnes delivered this harvest.

This takes total receivals to more than 15.6 million tonnes.

“Yields have been higher than anticipated across most parts of the Kwinana Zone after a favourable season, leading to a record-breaking harvest for the zone,” CBH Acting General Manager Operations Ben Raisbeck said.

“Kwinana has joined the Geraldton and Esperance zones in surpassing delivery expectations for this season, while Albany is tipped to reach its estimates as harvest continues at a steady pace into 2019.”

More sites will close moving into January, as an increased number of growers wrap up their harvest programs.

ALBANY
The Albany Zone received 312,000 tonnes over the past week, taking total receivals for the year to 2.4 million tonnes.

Most grain received last week was wheat, with 833,000 tonnes delivered within the zone to date.

Barley receivals for the year have reached 1.2 million tonnes, while canola deliveries sit at 275,000 tonnes.

“A number of sites, particularly in the north of the zone, are closing as harvest winds up but we expect that harvest in southern and western areas will continue into January,” Albany Zone Manager Greg Thornton said.

ESPERANCE
Receivals have slowed down dramatically in the Esperance Zone over the past week as growers finish harvesting this year's crop.

About 140,000 tonnes was delivered throughout the week, bringing total zone receivals to 2.2 million tonnes for the season.

“A number of sites are now closed for the year and the remainder of the sites are expected to be closed around New Year,” Esperance Zone Manager Mick Daw said.

GERALDTON
The Geraldton Zone has surpassed expectations by more than 30 per cent, with total receivals now at 3.2 million tonnes.

Last week was slow, with only 140,000 tonnes received within the seven days leading up to Christmas.

“Most sites are closed now with only a few open in the south of the zone, including the Geraldton Terminal,” Geraldton Zone Manager Duncan Gray said.

KWINANA
It’s been a monumental week for the Kwinana Zone which officially broke its receival record, with 7.7 million tonnes of grain delivered to this point in the season.

The zone received about 350,000 tonnes last week, and harvest operations have started to slow down as growers within the zone complete their programs.

“Lots of sites are now closed for the season and the majority will be closed before the new year, with only a few sites staying open into January to finish off the season,” Kwinana Zone Assistant Manager Allan Walker said.

MARKET UPDATE
Prior to Christmas, grower selling was particularly strong for wheat as growers looked to take advantage of strong prices.

Australian Hard values traded above A$400 per tonne free in store, and APW in the A$360’s per tonne free in store, which are traditionally very good prices.

Since Christmas, the market has been somewhat quiet as growers and the market focus on the Christmas/New Year break, with limited activity expected until into the new year.

Likewise, the international market is also quiet as the festive season public holidays take up a large proportion of the week.
