Citrus growers who have been in a world of pain for the last decade are suddenly rejoicing. An export led boom for the higher grade Naval Oranges has seen prices hit $1000/mt.
The Chinese middle class is behind the demand with 40,000 tonnes being exported this year. As little as six years ago we didn't export a single Orange to China.
Six years ago, prices for Oranges was about a tenth of what it is today, with many Farmers pulling trees because the job wasn't viable. Farmers who stuck fat are being rewarded and we are now seeing new plantings in a complete industry turnaround.
With all the quality fruit being exported it is putting pressure on the domestic market with many juicing companies under pressure to find stock
Good on the Citrus growers
