Lamb numbers increased to 33,844 penned, there was an exceptional run of extra heavy export lambs yarded, lambs became patchy through the trade and store categories, with a range from plain to excellent. All the usual buyers were on the rail in a market that opened strong over the light store weights, then started to bounce through the trade weights becoming erratic and the extra heavy export categories gained momentum selling very strong. Light store and trade lambs were again sort after and sold to a few dollars either side of firm.

The general run of medium and heavy trade sold mostly firm for the better quality and to $5 softer for the plainer secondary type. Extra heavy export lambs were again in high demand selling to a top of $334, gaining $6/head. Lambs back to the paddock made from $65 to $158 and $145 to $176/head to feed on.

Light trade lambs under 18kg to suit MK orders sold from $110 to 156/head, averaging 790c to 840c/kg cwt. Trade lambs 18 to 22kg sold from $152 to $182/head, 22 to 26kg sold $178 to $230/head, to average 795c to 830c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs 26 to 30kg made from $208 to $276 and over 30kg made from $260 to 334/head, to average of 820c to 840c/kg cwt. Crossbred Hoggets sold from $85 to $199 and the Merino’s were limited and sold to $58 to $156/head.

Mutton Numbers remained similar with 8,868 yarded, quality was mostly plain with a good offering of heavy sheep. Not all the usual buyers were active in a stronger market to a week ago. Merino wethers made from $548 to $122 for the lighter weights and the heavier weights sold from $115 to $145, gaining $15 to $20/head. Light weight Merino ewes made from $55 to $124, and the heavier weights sold from $113 to $135, selling $9 to $15/head dearer. Light crossbred mutton made from $35 to $105 and heavy weights sold from $102 to $140, selling firm to $5/head stronger.
