Dearer trend at Ballarat Sheep and Lambs

Yarding - 34,670 (-66) .
Lambs - 24,140 (+404).
Sheep - 11,000 (-470).

Lamb supply remained similar this week with 24,140 yarded. All weights and grades were penned, with an excellent penning of heavy and extra heavy lambs on offer. The regular buying group were in attendance and operated with urgency in a mostly dearer market. Light trade weight lambs sold $5 to $10/head up on last week, the medium trade weight lambs 22kg to 24 kg sold $2 stronger, with the heavy and extra heavy lambs on weight and quality selling to $10 dearer, and they reached $287/head for lambs estimated around 40kg cwt. Medium trade weight lambs sold from $175 to $199/head and averaged around 765c/kg cwt. Restockers and feeders were again active and paid mostly from $94 to $158, and the lighter lots from $43 to $90, feeder lambs sold to $5/head up on last week.

Light weight 2 score lambs, 12kg to 18 kg, sold from $110 to $151/head. Light trade weight 2 and 3 score lambs, 18kg to 22 kg, sold from$149 to $174/head and averaged around 775c/kg cwt. Medium trade weight 3 and 4 score lambs, 22kg to 24 kg, sold from $175 to$199/head, they ranged from 740c to 810c, to average around 765c/kg cwt. Heavy 3 and 4 score trade weight lambs, 24kg to 26/kg, sold from $190 to $205/head. Heavy lambs sold from $207 to $236.50, with the extra heavy export weight lambs selling from $220 to $287/headto average around 725c/kg cwt. Lighter Merino lambs sold from $115 to $158, with the heavier weights selling from $156 to $170.20/head to average from 665c to 670c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred hoggets sold from $155 to $196/head.

The sheep penning of 10,530 was down a little on last week. Quality was more mixed this week, with lighter Merino sheep making up a bigger percentage of the yarding. Merino wethers in a big fleece were more plentiful and they made to $198/head. Heavy crossbred ewes sold to$200/head. Wethers sold from $5 to $8/head up on last week, with most ewe mutton selling a few dollars either side of last weeks levels.Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep sold from $60 to $117 and averaged around 550c/kg cwt, with very light sheep selling from $10 to $80/head. Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $97 to $166/head and ranged from 480c to 625c, with the Merino mutton averaging around 580c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $147 to $167, heavy Merino wethers sold from $160 to $198, and the medium weights sold from $99 to $168/head, the heavy Merino sheep averaged from 580c to 595c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred sheep sold from $123 to $200/head and averaged around 520c/kg cwt. Crossbred wethers sold from $160 to $247, and rams sold from $15 to $121/head.
