We see and have problems every day. Most of the day-to-day ones are quite small, with many not worth worrying about, but occasionally, some big ones pop up.

There is an article below that is worth a read. They are talking about dissolving problems rather than solving them, especially the big ones. You think about it: in Ag, we usually get a quick fix, and then later, the same problem is back.

They are using footrot as an example; we can pare feet, do injections and run them through the foot bath, which solves the initial problem, but it will return. They are talking about using genetics to dissolve the problem for good, so it’s never ever a problem again.

Dissolving a problem might take years, but it would be worth it. Perhaps for some Farmers, Shearing is a problem, so to dissolve it, you breed shedders. There are plenty of examples I can think of in Farming. What are some of the problems you would like to dissolve?  Reply to dwaind@thefarmersclub.com.au
