Drought can floor the best -  I saw an interesting Tweet this morning, and it just reemphasised how crippling drought can be for Farmers.

The guy in WA is about 7 or 8 months into one of the driest and hottest periods on record, and he is sick of it already. He was asking how the guys in Qld and NSW handled 3 years in a row (2017-2020).

Long periods of drought can cripple the most resilient Farmers. It's the grind of having to do the same things day after day, which gets to people. But it's the loss of confidence that gets even the best people down. The good Farmers have great faith in what they do and are always confident without being arrogant. An intense drought can erode that confidence and floor the best.

So, the advice I was given in a conversation yesterday was for people not to beat themselves up when things are going against them. Especially things out of their control. Easier said than done, but you have to work really hard at it, knowing that there is rain around the corner and the good times will return. There are several areas that have had an extended dry period already, and with the cold weather coming in, the Livestock guys will be feeding for a while yet. Keep talking to people and make sure to convince yourself that everything is going to be alright and one day it will end. Have you been through a drought and let things get on top of you?
