Today is International Day of Rural Women (IDRW). This significant day was first observed by the United Nations in 2008 to acknowledge the critical role and contribution of rural women, including Indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty. This year’s IDRW theme announced by the United Nations is “Building rural women’s resilience in the wake of COVID-19”.
Farm Tender are proud supporters of an Australian based not-for-profit enterprise “Rural Women’s Day” that connects rural women through community, celebration and collaboration. Rural Women’s Day was founded by Farm Tender sales team member Jackie Elliott, following a very successful event hosted in South West Victoria in 2019 that was awarded the Southern Grampians Shire Australia Day Community Event of the Year.
This year due to restrictions and cancellation of the annual community event, the Rural Women’s Day team have planned and published a 68 page keepsake magazine that features over 20 women’s stories from across regional Australia and New Zealand. The 2020 Rural Women’s Day Magazine is currently available for pre-order, posted Australia wide for $20.00 each. You can find out more information and purchase your copy at www.ruralwomensday.com.au
