Lamb supply increased to 8,419, with new season young lambs making up 70% to 80% of the yarding. Most of the usual buying group attended in a strong market on the new season lambs selling to a dearer trend, with the quality ranging from good to excellent. Old lambs were in very limited supply, the quality varied from plain to very good which reflected in the prices, selling mostly cheaper.
New season light trade lambs sold $5 dearer to $166 to average 960c, medium trade weights sold mostly firm to $5 better, from $180 to $213 and heavy trade weights sold well to $8 dearer selling from $225 to $285/head to average 950c to 1000c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs were in limited supply selling to a top of $303/head. Feeders and restockers were active on the young lambs selling from $96 to $182 under 18kg and $187 to $210 over 18kg cwt to be $5 to $10/head dearer. A run of young, crossbred ewes sold very well to restockers from $236 to $322/head.
Very limited supply of last season lambs sold $20/head cheaper in places, with lighter weights this was a reflection of the quality offered. Heavy well presented lambs with good fat cover lambs sold mostly firm to slightly dearer to top $315/head.
Sheep supply increased to 4,937 yarded of very mixed quality, the market opened softer with bidding erratic at times, light weights sold firm to $5 cheaper and heavy sheep were $20 to $30/head cheaper in places. Heavy Merino wethers made from $161 to $210 with an average range of 570c to 640c/kg cwt, the lighter weights sold from $90 to $156/head. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $154 to $176 to average 590c to 610c and heavy crossbred mutton made $151 to $206/head averaging 550c to 600c/kg cwt
