Yarding: 38,111

Lamb numbers jumped again this week with 25,000 penned. Quality improved over the heavy and medium trade weights, light lambs were patchy with a range from plain to very good throughout the yarding. More buyers were on the rail, with extra store buyers active in the market. The market opened softer but soon gained momentum and bounced either side of firm, to then become stronger as the sale progressed to end dearer across the yarding. Store buyers had the pressure on processors for the lighter lambs to feed on with store lambs selling to $8 better, light and medium trade gained $6 to $10 and Heavy trade sold to $10/head dearer. Heavy export over 26kg sold to a top of $276/head with an estimated weight 28 to 29/kg cwt, selling to $6 dearer to a week ago. Lamb back to the paddock made from $20 to $150 and $153 to $195/head for lambs to feed on.

Light trade lambs under 18kg to suit MK orders sold from $98 to $159/head. Trade lambs 18 to 22kg sold from $153 to $206, 22 to 26kg sold $202 to $254/head, with a wide average range from 790c to 900c with sales reaching over 950c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs 26 to 30kg made from $253 to $276/head, with a range of 890c to 965c/kg cwt. Old lambs were limited, and quality was plain. Selling from $51 to $135 for the lighter weights and $129 to 200/head for the heavy weights, a few pens of Merino’s offered selling from $136 to $176/head.

Mutton numbers remained similar with 13,080 penned, the market opened strong and remained strong throughout the sale to end dearer to a week ago. Merino wethers selling from $45 to $120, selling $10 to $17/head stronger.

Light weight Merino ewes made from $37 to $86, and the heavier weights made from $82 to $139, gaining $8 to $15 and to $30/head in places, to average from 350c to 400c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred mutton made from $98 to $141, to be $7 to $10 dearer and the lighter weights made from $48 to $99/head.
