Grain fed Lambs all the rage at Wagga Wagga

Numbers lifted significantly and quality was mixed, with good numbers grass finished in varying shape and fat cover. A big field of buyers made it to the sale and all were competing if the article suited. The market was very erratic with prices fluctuating constantly. Numerous buyers avoided grassy lambs and only wanted grain fed types.

The trade lamb market was erratic with pens of lambs passed in along the way. Trade lambs firmed as the sale progressed. Lambs 20-24kg made from $148-$200 to average 760c/kg. Lambs 26-30kg sold at $188-$216/head. Store lambs were very mixed and the better types improved $10 making from $120-$153/head. Feed on lambs topped at $171.Light lambs to the processors sold from $117 to $145/head. The better Merino trade lambs sold from $144 to $186/head.

On the export front competition was just as erratic with some pens of lambs passed in. Lambs 26-30kg made $205-$246/head. Lambs over 30kg sold from $144-$196/head,

In the mutton sale it was a mixed quality offering, with a mix of heavy ewes and trade sheep available. Heavy ewes dominated the yarding, fetching prices ranging from $111 to $159/head. This category averaged around 400-439c/kg cwt, reflecting strong demand for quality mutton. On the other hand trade sheep saw a more modest sale with prices ranging from $54-$88/head.
