GRDC Regional Cropping Solutions Network has been bolstered

The Grains Research and Development Corporation’s (GRDC) Regional Cropping Solutions Network has been bolstered by the addition of four new members this month, to help identify and prioritise constraints and opportunities for farm profitability in southern New South Wales.
The network has been designed by the GRDC to provide vital links between growers, farming systems groups, agribusiness and researchers to help ensure grains’ research, development and extension (RD&E) delivers profitability gains at farm level.
The four new members include grain grower Chris Holland (Young), grain grower Murray Scholz (Henty), agronomist David Crowley (Young) and grower Laura Kaylock (Moulamein).
They join existing members Andrew Carmichael, grower/consultant (Coolamon), Heidi Gooden, grower/agronomist (Lockhart), Peter Hill agronomist, (Griffith), Jochim Jager, grower (Hillston), Jeff McCormick, lecturer (CSU, Wagga), Geoff McLeod, grower (Finley), John Pattison, grower (Marrar) and Ian Trevethan, grower (Howlong).
GRDC Southern RCSN Coordinator Chris Minehan said the new members would bring valuable knowledge, experience and passion to the panel.
“Whilst the knowledge, networks and skills of members is the primary consideration, we also want members from a range of geographical locations and rainfall zones,” Mr Minehan said.
“The panel members then play a vital role with the RCSN to assist in prioritising issues, constraints and opportunities in southern NSW."
He said existing and emerging issues, constraints and opportunities for the region were identified through a series of local forums held across the region each year. The forums were open to all grains industry stakeholders.
The 12-member RSCN panels are comprised of grain growers, advisors/agronomists and researchers from a range of geographic locations and rainfall zones.
The new members of the Southern RCSN have been appointed this month and will stay until June 2020, with the network set up so there are opportunities for new panellists to join each year.
GRDC Grower Relations Manager Richard Holzknecht said the composition of the RCSNs helped ensure a wide region of southern NSW had a “voice” with their concerns effectively represented to the GRDC.
“The diversity of knowledge, skills, experience and broad geographical representation of the RCSN panel is a significant asset to the GRDC,” Mr Holzknecht said.
“The RCSNs provide a transparent process to ensure all priority grains industry issues are captured and assist the GRDC in the development of targeted investments delivering the knowledge, tools or technology required by growers to facilitate on-farm practice change.”
