Head North and multiply - We used to live at a place called Yarrawonga (Vic/NSW border on the Murray River) for 10-plus years. We were living there when we started the Farm Tender business. It's a pretty progressive tourist town flanked by a very strong Farming area, mainly Cropping.

I'd go so far as to say that it was the first non-high rainfall Cropping region to get to $5000 an acre. They have had some wonderful Cropping years up that way for a long time now. Hence the reason why there are a lot of very strong Farmers in that area.

It's a bit unique from an area perspective in that many Yarrawonga/Mulwala Farmers have diversified their Land holdings into the more remote and less reliable Cropping Land in NSW, around places like Berallen, West Wyalong, Nyngan, Condobolin, Weethalle, Tullibigeal, etc. They bought there because buying Land in their own area was expensive and well-held. Most have made a huge success of it, buying in cheap, adopting moisture saving Cropping techniques and many have expanded on their original holdings.

Now, some of these guys are cropping tens of thousands of acres. I am not sure who the instigators of this trend were, but the locals have picked up on it, run with it and created opportunities for themselves to build substantial Farming businesses. It's a genuine success story and the model has well and truly worked.
