Heavy and Extra Heavy cheaper, all other categories dearer at Ballarat

Yarding - 32,500 (+6596).
Lambs - 24,500 (+5668).
Sheep - 8000 (+928).
Agents yarded 24,500 lambs. The quality was plain to very good with the skins starting to show signs of the cold weather, with all the well-presented and finish lambs coming off feed. All the usual buying group were in attendance with extra competition from store buyers filling orders for back to the paddock and feedlots, all the processors were also very active across the trade weights.
Agents reported light lambs back to the paddock and bag lamb orders were up to $10/head dearer and more in places. Light trade weights, 18 to 20kg cwt, sold to $10/head dearer. Lambs, 20 to 22kg cwt, sold firm to $8/head dearer. Lambs, 22 to 26kg cwt, sold firm to $5/head dearer. Heavy lambs, 26 to 30kg cwt, sold firm to $10 cheaper and extra heavy export lambs, over 30kg cwt, were much softer, making from $10 to $20/head cheaper and more in places on last week’s levels.
8,000 sheep were yarded. Agents reported the market was again very strong to see light sheep sell firm to $5/head dearer and medium sheep sold firm and heavy sheep sold firm. Merino wethers sold to $269 and Merino ewes sold to $230/head. Crossbred ewes sold to $290/head.
