Heavy Export Lambs to $356 at Ballarat

Yarding: 26,484
Lamb numbers decreased slightly to 16,321. Quality was plain to very good over the lighter weight and plainer lambs, while the heavy trade and heavy export lambs presented in excellent condition mostly off supplementary feed. Most of the usual buyers were presented, with more store buyers back on the rail in a very strong market across trade and heavy weight lambs. The secondary plainer lambs sold firm to $5 dearer, light trade sold to $10 better, medium and heavy trade sold to $26 dearer. Heavy export again in hot demand selling to a top of $356 to be $26 to $38/head stronger.
Lambs back to the paddock sold from $36 to $146 and lambs to feed on made from $154 to $172/head. Light trade lambs under 18kg sold from $118 to $166/head. Trade lambs 18 to 22kg sold from $160 to $215, lambs 22 to 26kg sold $196 to $282/head to have a wide range from 830c to 970c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs 26 to 30kg made from $264 to $312 and over 30kg sold from $290 to $356/head with an average range of 970c to 1000c/kg cwt. Hoggets were in limited supply, selling from $154 to $189 for the crossbreds and $44 to $104/head for the merino’s.

Mutton numbers increased to 10,163. Quality ranged from plain to excellent with the usual buyers operating and a northern exporter back on the rail, the market opened strong and remained very strong throughout the yarding. Merino wethers sold from $29 to $108 for the light weights, gaining $15 to $20 and the medium and heavy weights sold from $106 to $192, selling to $30 dearer and more in places. Merino Ewes made from $23 to $110 for the lighter weights and $100 to $167/head for the heavy weights, selling from $11 to $25/head dearer, with Merino mutton averaging 490c to 590c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred mutton made from $135 to $195, seling from $30 to $50 stronger and the light weights made from $698 to $128, selling $12 to $30/head dearer.
