Heavy Lambs down, Feeder and Restocker Lambs up at Ballarat

Yarding - 36,764 (+5619).

Lambs - 27,179 (+4270).

Sheep - 9585 (+1439).

Lamb numbers increased again this week to 27,179 yarded at Ballarat, the quality was very good. All the usual buying group attended and operated in a firm to slighty cheaper market to be around $2 to $5/head down on last weeks levels in places. Feeders and restockers were active again this week, paying between $61 to $185/head. Heavy lambs sold to $236/head, this is up on last week but there was more weight in the heavy lambs. Old lambs sold to $200/head.

Light weight 2 score lambs, 12kg to 18kg, sold from $108 to $148/head to average 790c/kg cwt. Trade 2 and 3 score lambs 18kg to 22kg sold from $149 to $181/head to average 765c, lambs 22kg to 24kg sold from $177 to $195/head, ranging from 704c to 795c to average around760c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs 24kg to 26kg sold from $187 to $216/head to average around 750c/kg cwt. Export lambs 26kg to 30kg sold from$212 to $236/head to average 770c/kg cwt. Heavy hogget's sold from $106 to $190 for crossbred's and Merino's to $116/head.

Sheep numbers also increased this week to 9,585; the quality was average to very good with a good offering of well covered heavy Merino mutton and crossbred sheep. All the usual buying group operated in a firm to cheaper market on last weeks levels. Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep made from $74 to $116 to average 530c/kg cwt with very light 1 score making from $41 to $78.50/head. Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $93 to $144/head with Merino mutton ranging from 555c to 615c to average around 565c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $138 to $158 averaging 570c, while heavy Merino wethers sold from $144 to $185/head to average around 585c/kg cwt. Rams sold from $35 to $134/head.
