Increase in Sheep numbers and Lamb numbers ease at Ballarat

Lambs - 6,682 (-524).

Sheep - 6,120 (+3,040).

Lamb numbers eased to 6,682 head. Quality continues to be mixed with the end of last seasons lambs being yarded, with a number of pens of longer wool plainer types offered. Not all the usual buying group attended or operated fully in an easier market to be back around $5 to $10/head and more in places on last week, with the demand for the well covered short skin lambs in the 22kg to 26kg categories. Heavy lambs over 26kg sold to $225/head.

Light weight 2 score lambs, 12kg to 18kg, sold from $120 to $140/head to average around 750c/kg cwt. Light trade 2 and 3 score lambs,18kg to 22kg, sold from $147 to $185/head to average 770c/kg cwt. Medium trade weight 3 and 4 score lambs, 22kg to 24kg, sold from $176to $192/head to average around 780c/kg cwt. Heavy 3 and 4 score trade weight lambs, 24kg to 26kg, sold from $188 to $204/head to average around 785c/kg cwt. Export lambs, 26kg to 30kg, sold from $212 to $225 to average around 790c/kg cwt. Hoggets sold from $65 to$162 for crossbred's and from $114 to $155/head for Merinos.

Sheep supply was up to 6,120 head. Quality was also mixed with some nice runs of Merino wethers offered. The market was firm to last weeks levels. Merino ewes sold to $160 and wethers sold to $168/head. Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep made from $75 to $118 to average 560c/kg cwt with very light 1 scores making from $60 to $86/head. Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $86 to $153/head to averaging around 560c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $157 to $160 to average around 590c/kg cwt and heavy crossbred ewes sold to$180/head. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $154 to $168, medium weights sold from $115 to $150/head. Heavy 3 to 5 score crossbred wethers sold from $141 to $159/head. Rams sold from $40 to $120/head.
