It might be a game-changer….. but - Some of the best ideas are so blatantly obvious that you think to yourself, why didn't I think of that? This one probably is because it's sorta been done before. It's called biological Shearing. Read the story here. 

It works the same as the failed biological Shearing we attempted all those years ago when we had those silly nets. But this is not aimed at the Merino market; it's aimed at those Sheep and Lambs that have an unviable fleece. Market conditions have sorta forced this to become an option.

But there's a catch. The Wool falls on the ground. And in that lies the problem. Farmers have this perception that Wool lying around in Paddocks, in Yards, on Fences, and on Trees makes the place look messy, and it does. And inferior Wool lying around could be a contaminant for Shearable Wool. It does break down eventually. Or do we just have to get over it and accept that it's part of solving a problem? 

I was speaking to someone about it yesterday who said you see all the Cotton along the side of the road and think that's messy. But do you see too many Cotton producers worried? If it was accepted, it would free up Shearers and trim up costs for those using it. 3 questions. Do you think this injection will be a good thing? Would you be happy with Wool lying around the place? Do you think eventually, there will be only two types of Sheep, Merinos and Shedding Breeds? Reply to dwaind@farmtender.com.au
