Lamb price rises at Wagga Wagga

Yarding - 31,100 (-2900).
Lambs - 22,500 (+500).
Sheep - 8600 (-3400).
Smaller domestic processors were the market drivers, over all classes of trade lambs. Niche well shaped 21 to 24kg shorn lambs igniting the bidding as buyers struggled to secure extra numbers for next week’s kill. Prices jumped by $7 to $13/head over all categories, with the average carcase weight price around 830c to 840c/kg. There was a very mixed selection of lambs to suit restockers. The general run of lambs carrying some weight and frame sold from $156 to $173/head.
A bigger group of export buyers were at the rail however not all companies operated to capacity. Lambs 24 to 26kg carcase weight sold from $207 to $217 gaining $14/head. Lambs weighing 26 to 30kg met strong demand making from $216 to $250/head to average 806c/kg cwt.
The highlight of the sale was shorn lambs weighing more than 30kg carcase weight. These lambs sold $15 dearer selling at $247 to $283/head averaging 827c/kg cwt.
It was a very mixed yarding of sheep and not all buyers operated. Heavy ewes sold to weak demand, with only a single northern buyer prepared to push price. Heavy mutton sold up to $30/head cheaper to average 549c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino wethers made from $163 to $220/head. Trade sheep averaged 530c/kg cwt.
