Lamb and sheep numbers both increased, drawn out by the high prices and next Monday's public holiday that will cause a fortnight's break in selling. There wasn't as many big export lambs on offer, but there was still some impressive heavy trade weights off supplementary feed. Light weight lambs remained in limited supply, with most in the smaller range being Merinos. The sale lacked the competitive punch of a week ago, with export and domestic buyers not prepared to chase as hard to fill orders. Prices backed away from the record pace of a week ago, with most crossbred lambs $15 to $30/head cheaper. Isolated sales were up to $45/head lower. Although it should be noted that the previous market had enjoyed price surges of up to $50/head. There was a strong feedlot order for lambs with frame-size, while a couple of restocking orders kept prices robust for small lambs to the paddock.

Demand for extra heavy lambs over 30kg cwt was irregular, making from $230 for small pen lots to a top of $284/head. The main run of heavy crossbred lambs, 26-30kg cwt, sold from $243 to $280 to average approximately $260/head. The 24-26kg cwt lambs did experience some of the biggest price corrections, as they were the red-hot item a week ago. They sold from $210 to $246/head. Crossbred lambs in the22-24kg cwt range varied from $177 to $241/head depending on fat cover and breed quality. On a carcase basis the bulk of the processor lambs were trending from 820c to 880c, with just the best heavy trade weights over 900c/kg cwt. Demand for Merino lambs remained solid, helped by processors wanting lighter stock to fill MK export orders. The main run of Merino lambs in the 16-18kg cwt range sold from $128 to $151/head. Heavier Merinos topped at $203/head.

The sheep sale was erratic which resulted in some mixed price trends. Some of the heaviest ewes still in fresh condition, which are becoming more limited, were dearer. However, most classes of mutton recorded easier carcase prices. The heaviest crossbred ewes sold from $230 to$250, as Merino wethers made to $240 and Merino ewes to $220/head. Once off the bigger sheep with fat cover, sales varied from $90 to$150/head for plainer mutton.
