Lambs up $5-$15, Sheep up $5-$20 in a strong Ballarat Market

Yarding - 47,223 (+3824).

Lambs - 32,411 (+1982).

Sheep - 14,812 (+1842).

Lamb numbers increased again this week to 32,400 yarded. The quality was excellent again this week with plenty of weight on offer across the yarding. All the usual buying group attended but not all operated fully in a strong market to be $5 to $15/head up on last week's levels in places. Several pens of excellent quality extra heavy export 30kg + lambs sold over $228 to reach $268/head. Shorn lambs sold to $180/head.

Light weight 2 score lambs 12kg to 18kg sold from $96 to $141/head to average 750c/kg cwt. Light trade 2 and 3 score lambs 18kg to 22kg sold from $136 to $170/head to average 740c/kg cwt. Lambs 22kg to 24kg sold from $164.50 to $186.50/head, ranging from 695c to 783c to average 730c/kg cwt. Heavy 3 to 4 score lambs 24kg to 26kg sold from $179 to $195/head to average 722c/kg cwt. Export lambs 26kg to30kg sold from $197 to $225/head to average 730c/kg cwt. Extra heavy export lambs 30kg+ sold from $228 to $268/head. Hoggets sold from $95 to $170 for crossbred's and Merino's from $108 to $159/head.

Sheep numbers increased to 14,800 yarded the quality was plain to excellent, with all weights on offer. All the usual buying group attended but again not all operated fully with a very strong market to be up $5 to $20/head in places. Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep made from $103 to $114 to average 645c/kg cwt with very light 1 score making from $47 to $82/head. Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $116 to $159/head ranging from 542c to 691c with Merino mutton averaging around 650c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $160 to$190/head. Heavy crossbred ewes sold from $144 to $215/head. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $155 to $203, medium weights sold from$130 to $172/head to average around 640c/kg cwt. Rams sold from $32 to $ 152/head.
