Lambs up to $20 and Sheep up to $15 dearer at Ballarat

Lambs - 19,582 (+4811).
Sheep - 10,977 (-2290).

Lamb numbers increased this week to 19,500 the quality was very good across the yarding with all weights offered. All the usual buying group attended and operated fully in a strong market to be $10 to $20/head up on last week’s levels and more in places. A pen of heavy shorn lambs sold to $310/head. Strong competition from feeders and restockers saw light lambs reaching to around 940c/kg. One agent penned several pens of light first cross ewes and weathers selling to $206/head.

Light weight 2 score lambs, 12 to 18kg sold from $130 to $158/head to average 880c/kg cwt. 2 and 3 score lambs, 18 to 22kg sold from $160to $193/head to average around 855c/kg cwt. Lambs, 22 to 24kg sold from $183 to $223/head, making from 825c to 930c to average around850c/kg cwt. 4 score lambs, 24 to 26kg sold from $220 to $230/head to average around 840c/kg cwt. Heavy 26 to 30kg lambs sold from $217to $248/head and over 30kg lambs sold from $265 to $310/head.

Sheep numbers eased slightly to 10,977 yarded, the quality was plain to very good with plenty of weight on offer in both Merino’s and crossbred’s. All the usual buying group attended with competition from all processors to see the market up around $10 to $15/head. Lightweight 1 and 2 score sheep sold from $76 to $130/head to average 570c/kg cwt. Medium weight sheep sold from $112 to $169/head selling from 523c to 683c, with Merino mutton averaging around 618c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $151 to $199 and heavy crossbred ewes sold from $161 to $244/head. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $160 to $220 and medium weights sold from $128 to $164/head to average640c/kg cwt. Rams sold from $41 to $120 and one ram sold to $200/head to a restocker.
