Lentils gaining in popularity

According to The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) recent 2017-18 crop report tipped national lentil plantings to jump 26 percent on last year to a record 385,000ha.
ABARES has forecast a 21 per cent increase in Victorian lentils planting to 170,000ha alone
Lentils have been popular for some time in the Wimmera and Mallee regions of Victoria. Yorke Peninsula (SA) Farmers have increased plantings in a very large way over the last 5 years.
The were once considered hard to grow and harvest but with better varieties now Farmers are much more confident of a good outcome.
The price for lentils has been quite strong for some time now and the Farmers in the Wimmera and Mallee regions who grew Lentils over Wheat and Barley last season came away with a good result financially.
