Yarding: 46,689
Lamb numbers increased after last week’s stronger market, with 33,800 yarded. Heavy trade and export categories presented in excellent condition off supplementary feed but limited numbers penned. All other weights and grades where well represented, ranging from excellent to plainer secondary types. All the usual buying group attended however not all were fully active in a firm to softer market across the yarding. Store lambs back to the paddock and to feed on sold mostly firm with some dearer sales for the really neat short skin lambs.
Light and medium trade sold to firm to $3 softer, however the plainer secondary types slipped $4 to $9/head. Heavy trade sold $3 to $6 softer and again the plainer lots slipped to $15/head. Extra heavy lambs over 26kg sold to a top of $310 selling $6 to $15/head softer. Lambs back to the paddock made from $22 to $157 and $152 to $183/head to feed on. Light trade lambs under 18kg to suit MK orders sold from $92 to 157/head, averaging 800c to 850c/kg cwt. Trade lambs 18 to 22kg sold from $167 to $189/head, 22 to 26kg sold $183 to $220 and the plainer types ranged from $173 to $208/head, to average 750c to 820c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs 26 to 30kg made from $214 to $252 and over 30kg made from $265 to $310/head, to average of 810c to 820c/kg, while the plainer lots made from $187 to $208/head to average 770c to 790c/kg cwt. A nice run of Merino lambs sold from $82 to $205/head.

Off the back of last week’s stronger mutton markets numbers jumped to 12,860 penned. The quality varied from plain to very good. Not all the usual buyers were on the rail and not all were operating in a market that opened softer to gain some momentum to become erratic, prices jumped late in the sale with spirited competition from 3 processors filling orders. Merino wethers sold from $63 to $136 for the lighter weights, to be $10/head softer and the heavier weights made from $134 to $174, selling to $10/head dearer with more weight offered this week.
Light weight Merino ewes made from $52 to $145, selling $3 to $10 cheaper and the heavier weights sold from $133 to $170, selling $10 to $25/head softer. Light weight crossbred mutton made from $37 to $133, slipping $5 to $20/head. Heavy Crossbred mutton sold from $114 to $187, in places selling to $25/head cheaper. Most mutton averaged from 470c to 550c/kg, with sales towards the end reaching over 600c/kg cwt.
