Agents yarded an increased offering of 17,726 lambs and 5,722 sheep. Quality varied from average to very good. The regular winter buying gallery was present and operated with spirited competition in a dearer lamb market for most categories. Light lambs and light trade weight lambs sold from $4 to $8 dearer while medium trade weights sold $5 to $10/head stronger. Restockers and feeders were busy and mostly paid from $94 to $180/head. The highlight of the market was a pen of extra heavy export lambs reaching $302/head. Heavy hoggets sold to $260/head.

Lightweight score 2 lambs made from $112 to $143/head averaging 860c/kg cwt. The light trade weight lambs sold from $147 to $174, while the medium trade weights made from $189 to $245/head to average 915c/kg cwt. Heavier trade weight lambs sold from $221 to $247/head. Heavy lambs made from $228 to $273 and the extra heavy export lambs sold to $302/head, averaging from 825c to 867c/kg cwt. The light to light trade weight Merino lambs made from $115 to $172 and Merino lambs with cover sold from $186 to $227/head and ranged from 775c to820c/kg cwt.

Quality was mixed in the sheep market with most weights and grades represented. Prices for the light sheep was either side of firm, mediumweight sheep sold from $5 to $7 dearer and the heavyweight mutton lifted $10 to $15 with some sales of up to $20/head dearer on last week. Very light sheep sold from $60 to $100, while lightweight score 2 sheep made from $114 to $128/head to average 650c/kg cwt. Medium weight sheep sold from $128 to $189/head, with the Merino mutton averaging from 650c to 700c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred ewes sold from $168 to $212 and extra heavy ewes sold to $260/head to average 645c to 675c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes made from $195 to$268/head. Medium Merino wethers sold from $144 to $179 and the heavy portion made from $215 up to also $268/head and averaged705c/kg cwt. Rams of all breeds made from $85 to $108/head
