AMIC is committed to actively supporting women in the meat industry by encouraging women to join our industry and supporting women already working within our industry. To fully realise this committment AMIC has joined forces with the internationally accamplied women’s networking organisation Meat Business Women.
Meat Business Women
Meat Business Women (MBW) is a women’s advocacy networking group founded in the United Kingdom by Laura Ryan – former Strategy Director at AHDB Beef & Lamb – and Pam Brook – former meat press editor. The success of MBW led to an international partnership signing with AMIC in September 2018 to bring together women from across the meat supply chain, including processors, wholesalers, retailers and smallgoods manufacturers, to future proof our industry.

MBW Committee
Meat Business Women is run on a not-for-profit basis by a committee of highly influential women in our industry, who are all volunteers. Each Committe member in Australia represents a broad range of perspectives with representatives from various businesses, roles and geographical locations. The Committee members are:
* Dalene Wray – Managing Director of OBE Organic (QLD)
* Joanne Macri – Wellard – Administration & HSE Coordinator (WA)
* Louise Harland Cox – AMIC – National Members Services Manager (NSW)
* Maureen Gimple – Bindaree Beef – Group Human Resources (QLD)
* Melissa Fletcher – Fletcher International – Chief Executive Officer (NSW)
* Stacey Mckenna – AMIC – Manager – Industry Research, Standards and Capability (Vic)
* Tania Carey – General Manager – Food Processing Equipment AUS and NZ (SA)
The role of the Committee is to provide strategic direction and help shape the future of MBW Australia through the development and implementation of regular events.
Key Objectives
MBW targets women working within the meat supply chain with three (3) key objectives:
* Develop the image, culture and landscape of the meat industry more attractive to female talent
* Nurture new female entrants into the sector through networking, education and mentoring;
* Skillfully improve networking.
These objectives are realised through networking events, conferences, mentoring courses and sponsorship of educational opportunities. Although the initiative will be driven by AMIC and AMIC Members, activities will be open to ALL women working in the supply chain.

The Meat Industry Networking Event
To celebrate the new partnership with MBW, AMIC is proud to announce the inaugural Australian Meat Business Women Networking Event to be held on Wednesday, 3 April at the Park Royal, Melbourne Airport. The event will be the first of its kind, bringing together women from across the meat supply chain, including processors, wholesalers, retailers and smallgoods manufacturers, to help future proof our industry.
The Event
The day will headline prominent industry figures and motivational speakers, as well as networking opportunities throughout the day including a speed networking session.
MBW Australia committee member Dalene Wray says the event will provide opportunities for women in the industry to connect, educate, and contribute.
Attendees will be able to listen and contribute to discussions about successes and challenges for women in the Australian meat industry. Topics covered will be wide ranging, with the aim to attract new female talent, create greater awareness of what is happening in our industry and an avenue for women to support each other.
“There are many women working in our industry who are not getting the unique networking opportunities they need, and this event will create an open space to connect, learn and grow their red meat sector careers.
“I encourage all leaders working in the industry to start thinking about the women in your organisation that would benefit from this event, and get them signed up,” Dalene said.

There will also be an opportunity for women outside the industry to participate in this event, including those involved in the pre-farmgate sector of our industry.
It is MBW goal to provide opportunities for women to progress in this field, helping them to realise their fullest potential through gaining knowledge and meeting valuable contacts.
