On hands and knees - There are a lot of Cropping Farmers driving around from paddock to paddock checking on where the Crops are at right now. Some will be down on their hands and knees, digging up Seeds, just getting a closer look. Observing is a wonderful thing.

For those in areas that are late and dry the consensus is that people are quite amazed as to what is coming up after only minimal amounts of rain. Some say seeds have sprouted on the back of a few morning dews and a bit of fog.

Some have recently reported that Seed, which has been lying in the ground for 2 months, is now emerging. Tough little buggers. I saw where one Farmer said this: “It demonstrates how durable the Seed is and that dry Sowing is a very low-risk strategy”. I can’t actually remember the time when Farmers started dry Sowing; maybe it was one of those things that gradually got more popular as we gained trust in the process.

Many are looking for a good rain now, not inches; just a steady 20mm would suffice, and really, if that happens, then intervals of 2, 5 or 8mm will help as we only have to limp through the winter. However, for those who are late and still dry, the ball game will be won or lost come Springtime. Give us a rundown on where your crops are at? Reply to dwaind@farmtender.com.au
