Growers attending the Commonwealth Bank AgQuip Field Days in Gunnedah on August 21-23 are invited to take full advantage of grain storage and rural business training experts, who will be located at the new Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) site at H30.
Industry specialists and researchers, along with GRDC staff and GRDC Northern Region Panel members, will be on hand to talk to growers during the three-day event.
One expert will be grain storage researcher Philip Burrill, from the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF), who will help growers understand the latest grain storage best practices to ensure the quality of retained seed.
Another expert will be Claudia Vicary from AgSkilled, who will explain to growers the free training options available in regional areas to bolster skills and knowledge in the grains industry. AgSkilled training is open to all New South Wales grain growers on topics ranging from welding through to agronomy, workplace health and safety, machinery operation and even farm business management.
GRDC Grower Relations Manager North, Susan McDonnell, said offering growers relevant and practical advice through the AgQuip field days was part of the GRDC’s commitment to providing information that could help lift grower profitability.
“Grower feedback regarding GRDC involvement in the Commonwealth Bank AgQuip Field days and the GRDC-NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) breakfast on the Wednesday morning has been very positive, so this year we are increasing our engagement by offering information about relevant industry issues at our stand for the whole three days,” Mrs McDonnell said.
“Both Phil Burrill and Claudia Vicary will be making regular presentations during the day from the GRDC site at i24b and will also be available to talk directly with growers.
“We believe these experts will complement our annual GRDC-NSW DPI breakfast event, which is open to all growers, agronomists and industry stakeholders, who are keen to hear the latest, timely research and development.”
Established as a premier event at the Commonwealth Bank AgQuip Field Days, the GRDC-NSW DPI Grains Breakfast Update attracts not only local growers, but those travelling to Gunnedah from interstate and overseas.
This year the breakfast event will include presentations by NSW DPI researchers on the following topics:
* Pulse disease update (Kevin Moore)
* The latest farming systems results from regional trials (Jon Baird)
* Summer crop agronomy (Loretta Serafin)
* Cereal crop update (Steven Simpfendorfer)
The breakfast is from 7.30-9am on Wednesday, August 22, and gives growers, agronomists and other industry personnel the chance to hear about timely and relevant grains research before exploring the field day. The update will be hosted at the NSW Farmers Shed (site H24 and 25) with free coffee and morning tea available at the GRDC site just down the aisle at H30.
Places at the breakfast are limited and growers should contact Liz Tydd, NSW DPI, on 02 6763 1454 or via liz.tydd@dpi.nsw.gov.au to register and receive instruction for the early site entry.
