Lamb numbers were back by 10,000 head, with 12,689 yarded at Ballarat this week. Quality varied from average to good, with more light weight lambs suiting restockers, feeders and processors yarded. They sold from unchanged to a few dollars dearer in places. Trade weight lambs made up the bulk of the offering, with several pens of heavy lambs yarded. Trade weight lambs eased from $2 to $5/head, but the nicely presented lambs sold close to firm at times. Heavy export weight lambs eased to $10/head. Heavy lambs reached $190, with the 22-24kg trade weight lambs making from $148 to $168/head. Most of the regular buying group attended and operated with less urgency. Restockers and feeders were again active, paying from $105 to $144 for lambs, and from $79 to $100/head for lighter drafts. Heavy lamb feeders paid $191/head for lambs. First cross ewe lambs sold to restockers from $123 to $137, and they paid $165/head for young first cross ewes.

Light weight 2 score, 12-18kg lambs sold from $107 to $125/head. Light trade 2 and 3 score lambs, 18-22kg, made from $123 to $151/head and averaged close to 660c/kg cwt. Medium trade weight 3 and 4 score lambs, 22-24kg sold from $148 to $168/head and averaged approximately 660c/kg cwt. Heavy trade weight, 24-26kg lambs sold from $158 to $176/head and averaged close to 640c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs sold from $175 to $191, and the few extra heavy lambs reached $190/head. Heavy crossbred hoggets sold from $95 to $117/head.
Sheep numbers nearly doubled, with 13,496 head yarded. Quality varied from very light, to some excellent pens of heavy crossbred and Merino ewes, and with more large runs of Merino wethers yarded this week. Most of the regular buying group operated in a fluctuating market, with the light and medium weight sheep going $5/head easier, and the heavier sheep at times sold from firm to a few dollars better. Medium weight Merino wethers eased to $5/head, with the heavier weights selling a few dollars either side of firm. Merino wethers made to $135/head.

Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep sold from $38 to $81, approximately 350c/kg cwt, with very light sheep making from $2 to $62/head. Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $64 to $113/head or from 325c to 440c, with the Merino mutton averaging close to 410c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $110 to $133, as the heavy wethers made from $102 to $135 and the medium weights sold from $74 to $115/head. The heavy Merino sheep sold from 410c to 430c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred ewes sold from $95 to $136/head and averaged close to 380c/kg cwt. Rams sold from $5 to $86/head.
