Lamb numbers decreased by approximately 1,200 head, with 20,292 yarded at Ballarat this week. Quality covered all weights and grades, with an excellent penning of trade weight and heavy lambs yarded. The usual buying group attended and operated keenly, with quality lambs lifting from $5 to $20 and up to $35/head in places on the extra heavy weight lambs, amid reports of tightening supplies. Several sales of extra heavy lambs reached $320/head being a centre record. The medium trade weight lambs sold from $195 to $248/head, at times reaching1,000c to average close to 920c/kg cwt. Restockers and feeders were very active, paying from $102 to $176 for lambs and from $49 to$110/head for lighter lots.

Light weight 2 score lambs sold from $96 to $175/head. Light trade weight 2 and 3 score lambs weighing 18-22 kg, sold from $169 to$211/head and averaged approximately 900c/kg cwt. Medium weight 3 and 4 score lambs weighing 22-24kg sold from $195 to $248/head, or from 840c to 1,000c to average close to 920c/kg cwt.
Heavy 3 and 4 score lambs, 24-26kg, sold from $230 to $265/head. Export weight lambs made from $251 to $294/head. Extra heavy export weight lambs sold from $299 to $320/head and averaged approximately 870c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred hoggets sold from $130 to $220, withthe Merinos making from $104 to $139/head.

Sheep numbers were back at 8,326 head, with not as much weight through the yarding this week. Sheep continue to sell to strong competition with the general run of ewe mutton making from $2 to $8/head up on last week. Lighter plainer sheep and the heavy crossbred sheep on quality eased a few dollars. Merino wethers carrying a big skin sold to strong competition to be $10 to $15/head dearer in places.Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep sold from $84 to $132/head to average approximately 595c, with very light sheep making from $35 to$85/head. Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $103 to $164/head, or from 500c to 680c, with the Merino mutton averaging close to 615c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold to $162, as heavy Merino wethers sold from $164 to $200, with the medium weights making from$115 to $164/head. The heavy Merino sheep received from 650c to 680c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred ewes sold from $146 to $247.50/head and averaged close to 620c/kg cwt. Crossbred wethers sold from $148 to $250, and rams made from $30 to $127/head.
