Pubs Alive - Paula and I headed to Wagga Wagga on Sunday for the Pasture Agronomy Service (PAC) conference hosted by its charismatic owner, Mark Lucas. Mark asked me to talk, and I was very grateful for the opportunity. His topic for me was Ag Advocacy.
We got through the talk and discussed where it's currently at and where we think it might land in the future. It was good fun.

On the way up from Central Victoria the season get's better the further North you go. Google Maps told me the quickest way was up the Hume, but as we do, we like to head more back roads to have a good look around.
I had this thing in my head that I wanted to call into the Balldale Hotel. So we snaked our way up and managed to get there by 1:30 pm. I'd been there once before, probably 15 years ago, when the pub was battling. It then closed for a period of time after that, and someone who saw the potential in the place (it's a lovely old building) got hold of it, and the rest is history. If there weren't over 150 people there on Sunday, I'd go he. The reason we called in was because I'd heard about how good it was going, and it was heartwarming to see it on fire. Pubs are all about people, and if you have someone who has the initiative and the capability, they are odds on to make a success of it. I recommend a visit. Have you been to the "revamped" Balldale Hotel yet? PS. I also went past the Walbundrie Pub, and its car park was full, too. PPS. As I was told later the reason why there were so many cars and Utes was that it was closing that day. My source says it has been poorly run. Reply to dwaind@farmtender.com.au
