Lamb supply decreased to 23,903 yarded, the quality was similar to last week ranging from plain to excellent. All the usual buying group attended but not all operated fully, some bouncing in and out of the market as bidding was erratic at times. The market started very strong to ease mid way and then gaining again. Light and medium trade lambs sold either side of firm, with the plainer lambs needing finish sold slightly cheaper and lambs with good fat cover sold to $8/head dearer in places. Heavy trade lambs sold to $12 stronger, while heavy export lambs are still in limited supply were to $15/head dearer.

Strong competition from store buyers again this week, light lambs under 18kg cwt paying $128 to $176 and over 18kg cwt $174 to $215/head to feed on. Light lambs under 18kg cwt to suit MK orders to the trade sold from $122 to $178, $5 to $15/head dearer. Trade lambs 18kg to 22kg sold from $170 to $218 and lambs 22kg to 24kg made from $210 to $245/head, with an average range of 890c to 915c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs 24kg to 26kg sold from $222 to $268, with limited numbers offered in the heavy export lambs, 26kg to 30kg made from $264 to $304/head with and average range of 920c to 960c/kg cwt.

Sheep numbers increased this week to 9,267 penned, the quality ranged from plain to very good with most of the usual buying group present, but not all were active and some watching on as competition was strong again this week. Overall, the market was to $30/head dearer across most categories. Heavy Merino wethers made from $186 to $235/head, to average 620c to 700c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $170 to $220/head to average 620c to 670c and heavy crossbred mutton made $150 to $250/head, to average 600c to 635c/kg cwt.
