Yarding - 38,900 (+90).
Lambs - 32,600 (-300).
Sheep - 6300 (+390).
There were increased supplies of lambs off loaded into prime finished categories after being purchased earlier in the year from Auctions Plus. Quality was excellent over trade and heavy lamb categories, with most lamb’s grain assisted. Heavy and extra heavy lamb numbers lifted while lambs over 30kg cwt were in abundance. Restocker and feedlot buying activity was minimal and there were only a limited number of light weight lambs suitable for export processors.
Major domestic buyers operated sporadically across trade weight classes which resulted in prices winding back $4 to $7/head. 21 to 24kg cwt lambs sold from $190 to $230/head with the bulk averaging from 900c to 914c/kg cwt. Merino trade lambs sold to a smaller group of buyers and all categories sold to weak competition to average 823c/kg cwt. Lambs returning to the paddock made from $183 to $195/head.
There were the usual export buyers at the rail however, not all operated fully and competition was very patchy throughout the sale. Major domestic buyers stepped away from lambs, 24 to 26kg, rarely making a purchase, which had a significant impact on prices. Lambs, 26 to30kg, sold from $223 to $257, easing $9/head to average 839c/kg cwt. Lambs weighing over 30kg cwt sold $8 cheaper, making from $244 to$312/head, averaging 773c/kg cwt.
It was a mixed quality yarding of mutton with heavy sheep well supplied. Heavy ewes sold $25 to $30 cheaper, recording a top price of $272/head, to average 677c to 732c/kg cwt. Heavy wethers were in reasonable numbers to average from 623c to 642c/kg cwt. Trade sheep sold to significantly cheaper price levels making from $117 to $167/head, averaging 660c/kg cwt
