Lamb supply dropped again this week to 5,900 in a mixed quality yarding that included the last drafts from last seasons lambs and contributed to a very erratic market. Not all the usual buying group were present in a market that was softer overall. Lambs with good fat cover and finish still sold very well to reach the high 900c/kg cwt. Light and medium trade lambs sold mainly $5 to $10 cheaper, while heavy trade weights sold well to be firm to $5/head softer in places. Heavy export lambs were in limited supply, selling $10 cheaper and extra heavy weights over 30kg cwt were back $18/head in a smaller offering. Competition for the very limited number of new season lambs was strong, selling from $145 to $280/head.
Very light 1 and 2 score lambs under 18kg cwt to the processor to suit MK orders, sold from $106 to $164, back $10/head. Lambs to the trade weighing 18 to 22kg sold from $160 to $218, while the 22 to 24kg lambs made from $200 to $235/head with an average range of 910c to 925c/kg cwt. Lambs weighing 24 to 26kg sold from $238 to $253/head, to average between 940c and 980c/kg cwt. Export 4 score 26 to 30kg lambs sold from $250 to $296, averaging 965c/kg cwt and lambs over 30kg sold from $280 to $302/head.
Sheep supply was 5,056 head in a mixed quality offering. Not all the usual buyers were present and some were not active with competition softer to previous weeks and an overall price drop of $20 to $30/head across most categories. Heavy Merino wethers made from $159 to $189 with an average range of 640c to 660c/kg cwt, while the lighter weights sold from $98 to $166/head. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $178 to $200/head to average 625c and heavy crossbred mutton made $160 to $220/head averaging 590c/kg cwt
