Softer Lamb amd Sheep market at Ballarat

Agents penned 36,800 Lambs, the quality was mixed ranging from plain to excellent. All the usual buying group attended and operated in a mostly softer market across all weights and grades, still good competition for the very neat well finished short skinned lambs. Light trade lambs sold to $7 softer, medium trade were $5 to $10 cheaper with heavy trade back $10 to $15/head. Export heavy and extra lambs sold $15 to $27 softer, to top $278/head with an estimated 38 to 40kg cwt. Feeders and restockers are still very strong in the market with prices holding firm to $5/head cheaper. Light weight lambs back to the paddock, sold from $123 to $192/head. Lambs suiting MK orders under 18kg sold from $130 to $164/head.
Lambs to the trade 18 to 22kg sold from $161 to $191, 22 to 24kg, made from $175 to $208/head to range from 742c to 868c to average 804c to 835c/kg cwt. Lambs 24 to 26kg selling from $181 to $219/head, to average 780c to 795c/kg cwt. Export 4 score 26 to 30kg lambs, sold from $203 to $243 to average 785c and over 30kg sold from $230 to $278/head to average an estimated 750c to 760c/kg cwt. Hoggetssold to $190 for crossbreds and Merino’s sold to $183/head.
A similar sheep yarding to last week at 13,800, the quality was plain to very good, all processors were present, bidding started a little erratic and the intensity wasn’t as strong as last week causing price reductions of up to $30/head and more in places. Well covered Merino wethers still selling well to top $245/head.
Heavy Merino wethers over 24kg sold from $160 to $245, with lighter weights making from $138 to $166/head with a range of 629c to704c/kg, to average 645c to 660c cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $159 to $219/head to average 625c to 645c/kg and heavy crossbred ewes made from $156 to $249/head, with an average of 620c to 630c/kg cwt. Merino rams sold to $186/head.
