Agents penned 13,875 lambs, in a yarding that lacked the quality and weight of the previous week, ranging from plain to very good. Not all the usual buying group attended with one major exporter absent. After coming off last week’s extremely strong market, prices held firm to $12/head cheaper in places. Competition was still strong for the very neat well-covered trade weight lambs off supplementary feed, to hold mostly firm.
Light trade lambs sold to $10 softer, while medium and heavy trade lambs were firm to $6/head easier, with sales still reaching over 1,000c/kg cwt in places. Heavy export lambs sold to $6 cheaper and extra heavy over 30kg lambs were $10 to $12 softer, selling to a top of $330/head. Not many store buyers were present. Lambs back to the paddock sold from $77 to $195/head holding mostly firm with a few cheaper sales. Very light 1 and 2 score lambs to the processor to suit MK orders sold from $115 to $172, to be $8/head softer.
Lambs to the trade weighing 18 to 22kg sold from $175 to $229, while the 22 to 24kg lambs made from $215 to $254/head with an average range of 920c to 970c/kg cwt. Lambs weighing 24 to 26kg sold from $231 to $272/head to average to average 970c/kg cwt. Export 4 score, 26 to 30kg lambs, sold from $261 to $286, averaging 950c and over 30kg lambs sold from $287 to $330/head, to average from 890c to 900c/kg cwt. Merino lambs sold from $98 to $187/head, with numbers back from last week.
Sheep numbers increased to 5,093. The quality ranged from plain to good, with most of the usual buying group present in a market the eased from last week's high prices to be $5 to $15/head cheaper across all categories. Heavy Merino wethers made from $190 to $245/head with an average range of 715c to 750c/kg cwt. The lighter weights sold from $130 to $182/head. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $187 to $233 to average from 710c to 730c and extra heavy crossbred mutton made sold to $258/head averaging 680c to 710c/kg cwt
