Lamb supply jumped to 15,490 this week, over double to the previous sale. The quality was mixed, ranging from plain to very good. Most of the usual buying group attended in a market that was mostly softer. Overall, most categories were $6 to $15/head cheaper to last week’s levels depending on finish and quality. The heaviest lambs topped $285/head with an estimate weight of 28kg cwt.

Restockers were again active for the lambs back to the paddock selling from $110 to $218, to $14/head cheaper. Light lambs under 18kg cwt to the trade to suit MK orders, sold from $127 to $189to average 900c to 930c/kg cwt, back $10 to $15/head. Trade lambs 18 to 22kg sold from $168 to $210 to average 930c to 940c/kg, $6 to $12/head cheaper. Lambs 22kg to 24kg made from $214 to $237c with an average range of 915c to 930c/kg cwt, to $10/head softer in places. Lamb 24 to 26kg sold from $243 to $270 to average 920c to 930c/kg cwt, selling firm to $8/head cheaper in places. Numbers were limited for the heavy export, with lambs 26 to 30kg made from $270 to $285/head.

Old lambs are in very limited supply, the offering were in small lots of mixed quality to top at $280/head, mostly selling to a cheaper market.

Sheep supply increased to 9,218 yarded, the quality ranged from plain to very good, the market opened much softer, overall was $10 to $30/head cheaper across all categories. Heavy Merino wethers made from $145 to $180/head with an average range of 600c to 630c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $150 to $180 to average 590c to 615c and heavy crossbred mutton made $140 to $192/head averaging 570c to 600c/kg cwt.
