Some more than others - I wise old cricketer I used to play against regularly made this statement: "Every dog has their day, just some more than others". What he was angling at there was that some cricketers are better and make more runs or take more wickets. Simple, that's how it works.

I saw a quote from Nigel Kerin, from Kerin Ag, over the weekend: "We had a serious drought in 17-18-19, which broke in March 2020. Four years of extreme dry followed by four of extreme wet. No matter where you live in the world of Ag we all get our turn. Staying agile, making decisions ahead of time, and having an offensive game plan rather than a defensive one".

Yes, we all get our turn in Ag, and when it comes along, that's when we need to be ready to take maximum advantage. Most of your production wealth is realised in the big years; that's when you make the gains from within your business. Be ready to cash in when they come along.

So this is where some of the skills of Farming come in. When you get favourable production conditions, it's the ability to maximise the position for the best possible outcome. Some are better at it than others, and that's where my old cricketing mate's statement rings true. Have you had one of those years where everything has gone right, and you've pulled it off?
