Strong Lamb market at Ballarat

Yarding - 28,200 (-1800).
Lambs - 23,000 (-1000).
Sheep - 5,200 (-800).
Agents drew for 23,000 lambs. The quality was plain to very good. Not all the usual buying group were in attendance, but had an extra processor buying.
Agents reported overall a very strong market, with light lambs back to the paddock and MK orders sold firm to $4/head cheaper. Light trade weights, 18 to 20kg cwt, sold very strong to be firm. Lambs 20 to 24kg cwt types sold firm to slightly dearer, with the very neat short skinned lambs averaging from 850c to 880c/kg, with the odd pen reaching 900c/kg cwt. Heavy trade Lambs, 24 to 26kg, sold firm, making from 760cto 800c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs, 26 to 30kg cwt, sold firm to $5 dearer, with the 26 to 27kg lambs reaching around 800c/kg cwt and over 30kgcwt types also sold firm to top at $296/head.
5,200 sheep were yarded. The quality was plain to good, not all the usual buying group attended, agents reported a much softer market this week. There wasn’t the competition for the extra heavy crossbred mutton to see $20 to $30/head cheaper and medium and light weights were also back this week around $10 to $15/head. Crossbred ewes sold from $45 to $230 and wethers made from $138 to $220/head. Merino mutton was $10 to $15/head cheaper, Merino ewes sold from $68 to $200 and wethers made from $70 to $228/head. Heavy Merino rams sold to $200/head.
