There was dramatic increase in numbers of new seasons lambs at Ballarat, where agents yarded 38,512. There was a full field of buyers and the quality of the offering was very good however some lambs are showing signs of going to wool especially on the lighter end. Restocking competition was in force especially for the light weight new seasons lambs in an erratic market which was firm for all categories. Sheep on the other hand were $5 to $10/head dearer.

News season light 12kg to 16kg lambs made from $128 to $185 most of these back to the paddock with the balance for MK orders. Trade lambs 18kg to 22kg averaging from $170 to $210/head, to average 850c/kg cwt. Heavy trade lambs 22kg to 26kgs made $172 to $254/head, averaging around 850c to 935c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs over 26kg made to $300/head to average 930c to 996c/kg cwt these were keenly sought after.

In an excellent offering off sheep where all weights and grades were on offer. Heavy crossbred ewes made to $246 with the well covered Merino ewes making between $180 and $246/head. Wethers to $246, the average run of Merino mutton to make between 650c and 700c with the wethers to average between 680c and 740c/kg cwt. Rams, terminal sires made to $98, Merinos to $202/head
