Subsidising some - I remember when I was on the Farm, I occasionally got some kind of Landcare grant to fence off a bit of Creek frontage. It was good at the time.

Through our Farm Tender business, we have received funds through the R & D grants for developing software technology. Again, good at the time, but we haven't applied for any for a few years. So what I am about to propose is hypocritical having received money from grants.

I heard from someone today that an Australian Ag manufacturer received a hefty grant from the government to advance one of their products. But what if we ceased all grants and funding to businesses and got it all back in reduced taxes? How much better off would we all be?

And those who created businesses on the back of all these grants (the smart money people know where to target) wouldn't be able to start at all. Without grants and funding it would put all businesses on a level playing field. I'm told that ghost invoicing is rife in things like NDIS and even in the Landcare movement. I was once told even the Commonwealth Bank secured a six-figure R&D funding grant. I mean, we talk about subsidies in other countries, and what we are doing here is just another form of subsidy. Do you think we should abolish grants and then reduce our taxes? Reply to dwaind@farmtender.com.au
