Super small yarding at Ballarat

Lamb and sheep numbers dropped dramatically to 4,560 Lambs and 1,335 sheep, being a shorter week contributed very low numbers and one off the smallest yarding in a very long time. Quality was patchy for the limited offering across all categories. Most of the usual buyers were present, however there were very few store buyers on the rail, operating in a strong market.

Light lambs sold softer however there were too few to quote, medium trade sold firm to a few dollars dearer and heavy trade gained to $10/head. Heavy export lambs 26 to 30kg gained the most interest to sell $15 to $25 dearer and the extra heavy lambs over 30kg cwt sold to $10/head stronger.

Lambs back to the paddock made from $38 to $162/head. Light trade lambs under 18kg to suit MK orders sold from $80 to 137/head. Trade lambs 18 to 22kg sold from $155 to $181/head, 22 to 26kg sold $173 to $230, to average 800c to 860c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs 26 to 30kg made from $258 to $270 and over 30kg made from $285 to $300/head.

Mutton sold strong across the yarding gaining $5 to $10/head with the limited offering was difficult to quote all weights and grades. Light weight Merino ewes made from $55 to $125 and the heavier weights sold from $90 to $150, gaining $10/head. Light weight crossbred mutton made from $88 to $136 and heavy crossbred mutton sold from $135 to $200, selling cheaper dollars per head but dearer c/kg cwt.
