Using our Farm Tender Facebook page, we were able to get to the bottom of what beer Farmers drank.
It was an extensive Australia-wide survey and some of the results were a little bit different to what we thought.
The results were:
17.35% drink Great Northern, 17.07% Victoria Bitter, 15.42% Carlton Dry, 10.46 Melbourne Bitter, 6.88% XXXX Gold, 3.58% Carlton Draught and 3.03% Coopers Pale Ale.
The other 26% were made up of several other beers which included Tooheys Extra Dry, West End Draught, Millers Chill, Eagle Bitter, Yenda IPA, Tooheys New, Cascade Premium, Coopers Sparkling Ale, Tooheys Old, VB Gold, Hahn Super Dry, Fosters Lager, Furphy, Stone & Wood, Carlton Mid, Southwalk Bitter, Steamrail IPA, Emu Export, Fat Yak, Corona, XXXX original and Light Ice
We were somewhat surprised that Great Northern, a relatively new brand took the top billing. This is a mid-strength beer that would have eaten into the XXXX Gold market (5th on the list). It also tells us that Farmer now prefer a beer with less alcohol content. This wouldn't have been the case 20 years ago.
