The big rain watch - I remember when I was a kid, and your rain forecast was when you saw a shower come across the flat. You knew it was time to get the Sheep in the Shed quickly because those Shearers don't like Shearing wet ones.
I had a couple of hours chat with Kate Burke last Wednesday, and she mentioned that when she was a youngster working in the Wimmera, she used to phone forward to her family, who were Farmers at Elmore, North of Bendigo, that it was raining there and it's probably 5 to 6 hours before it reaches Elmore.

That was yesteryear. Now we have much more sophisticated ways of predicting the weather, although some would argue "do we". There are all these different models and forecasts floating around, and we draw bias to one or two of them and hang our hat on them, getting it, well, half right.
Much of the country is bone dry and breakless. Many Farmers are scouring the weather models hourly in the hope that something will happen soon. The talk is that something is going to happen in early June. That something can't come quick enough, and the wait is excruciating The rain watch is well and truly one. Here's hoping that it comes for those who need it. What weather forecast do you watch? Reply to dwaind@farmtender.com.au
