The Farm Tender Hay Report – Volume 19 - Domestic Hay buying interest steady at best

Domestic Hay buying interest steady at best

Frost has claimed another area, this time it was Southern Victoria which had magnificent Grain Crops. The majority of these crops will now be felled for Hay production. This, in turn, will bring more Hay onto the market

Exporters seem to be relatively active on the buying front by all reports. Domestic Hay demand is only steady as buyers pick through searching for the best value Hay. Anything without a test doesn't get much of a look in, so make sure you get those tests done

We have been banging on for weeks for Farmers with Canola Hay to get the nitrate test done. The dry test takes about 2-3 days, and the wet test takes 2-3 weeks. The wet test is more accurate and has to be done in the US. We can get these test done through the Prime Ag Centre (PAC) in Elmore, give Matt Henke a call on 0429 993 548

Mike Pickard, Farm Tender's Goondiwindi base Salesman, reports that the current hot weather being experienced will burn off alot of the green grass that has grown with the rain events that have occurred recently. Despite the green (now brown) pick, Hay prices remain very expensive in the Northern NSW/Southern Queensland areas; Feedlots are reportedly paying up to $500 for cereal Hay and $300 for Straw

Therefore the current market for Hay, ex Farm Vic and SA, sits at around the $250-$310 for Cereal, $375-$420 for Vetch and $250-$300 for Canola Hay. The variables are the test result, location, quality and bale weight.

Also, we launched DelayPay last week which might be of interest to Hay buyers and seller alike. For more info Call Dwain Duxson on 0427 011 900
