The lamb and sheep auction experienced a significant surge in stock, resulting in the yards overflowing with animals. Notably, two major processors, typically dominant in the market, opted out of purchasing lambs, leading to substantial price drops for heavy lambs as the sale progressed. A sizable gathering of restockers from three states actively participated in the auction, drawn by recent rainfall and the potential for higher prices for finished lambs.

Trade lambs were in ample supply, and major domestic buyers played a crucial role in stabilizing prices, showing strong interest in all finished lambs weighing between 23-27kg. Trade lambs weighing 22 to 24 kg held steady or saw a slight decrease, fetching prices ranging from $120 to $171 and averaging 642 cents/kg carcass weight.

Heavy export lambs found buyers among only a few, with domestic processors joining the competition due to the price correction. Heavy lambs experienced price declines of $20 to $30, with those weighing between 26 to 30kg selling at $172 to $204, and those over 30kg fetching prices from $195 to $228.

The mutton sale faced weak demand, with buyers sporadically buying.. The looming abattoir closures for the Christmas break had a significant impact on prices generally. Prices retreated by $10 to $50, with heavy sheep selling from $35 to $53. Light mutton and trade sheep were traded within the range of $16 to $44.
